Blue

photo by Warm Coco July 2010

Mom served me hot tea
and cold cereal
in her new Blue Willow dishes.
My childhood memories embellished with
Blue Willow
Blue Willow
Blue Willow.
As a child, I studied that Blue Willow pattern
when I sat alone to eat.
Later,
when Mom was in the hospital
I peeked through her kitchen cabinets
at home.
I spied
her very
last
Blue Willow piece.
In my hand it's smaller now,
and more frail
with many fine lines.

  1. a touching piece...as we get older we realise that most things become smaller and frail...including those around us...

  2. Dear WC: How I adore this poem. How many lovely memories of warm (or hot) coco! I remember coco too, my grandma use to make each evening she'd ask would we like hot coco, and nobody ever said no! Thank-you for this memory. ps I think that cute Disney-esque sea creature with the adorable face is a baby thornback who turns into a not so cute creature like (I think?)thornback stingray or mantaray? Something like that! I just loved his face! So adorable!
